Disability Benefits

There are two disability plans—the old plan and the new plan. All members who joined SERS after July 29, 1992, are covered by the new plan.

Under the old plan, a member cannot apply for disability once age 60 is reached; under the new plan, a member can apply regardless of age. The new disability plan will terminate after a specified number of months and the member will then be entitled to a conversion retirement. For members younger than 60 when approved, the allowance will terminate at age 65. Those 60 and older will terminate as follows:
